Compeer Awarded $25,000 Grant from Community Foundation

Compeer and Say Yes to Identify High School Seniors for Unique Mentoring Opportunity

(Buffalo, NY) – Compeer of Greater Buffalo, the only organization in Western New York dedicated to recovery through the healing power of friendship, announced today that the organization, through a collaboration with Say Yes Buffalo, received a $25,000 grant from The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to conduct a unique mentoring program with low in come high school seniors currently enrolled in a City of Buffalo public or charter school.

“Our team will utilize these grant funds to match 50 students with volunteer, working professionals, mentors,” stated Timothy Boling, Executive Director, Compeer Inc. “Many of these identified students could be the first members of their families to attend college and now, because of the generous support of the Community Foundation, we will now be able to ensure they are equipped with the tools to apply for colleges, apply for financial aid, select a college to attend and prepare for the transition from high school to college.”

A key component to the program will be recruiting working professionals to become volunteer mentors to the students. Compeer and Say Yes will recruit, properly vet, train and orient volunteers. Based on the backgrounds, life experiences, interests and desires of both the scholars and volunteers, matches will then take place. Once matched, the students and volunteers will continue to receive support, resources, and guidance from Compeer and Say Yes staff. Both mentors and mentees will be required to make a minimum of an 18-month time commitment.

COMPEER NAMES TIM BOLING NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Former CEO of Cradle Beach to lead organization into new chapter

(Buffalo, NY) – Compeer of Greater Buffalo, the only organization in Western New York dedicated to recovery through the healing power of friendship, announced today the hiring of Timothy M. Boling, CFRE as its new Executive Director. Mr. Boling will succeed long time founder and current executive director, Michele Brown who retires at the end of this year.

“Mr. Boling brings a wealth of leadership and development experience to the organization as well as a solid track record in taking non profit organizations to the next level of development,” stated Michael P. McMahon, Senior Vice President with Key Bank and Chairman of the Compeer Board. “Finding someone to take the reigns from Michele was no easy task and after an extensive national search we are so pleased to welcome Tim to the Compeer Family.”

One of the major initiatives that Boling will see through is the merger of Compeer of Greater Buffalo with Compeer Inc., encompassing more than 50 chapters worldwide. This merger brings the Compeer Buffalo Chapter full circle as when it was founded in 1985 by Brown, it was originally under the auspices of Compeer Inc.

“It is truly exciting and an honor to be joining the Compeer family. The Board’s confidence in my leadership is humbling. I look forward to introducing the many business and philanthropic friends that I have made in the community to the transformative work that Compeer is doing in our community.”

Boling officially joins the organization effective October 3, 2016 and will work closely with Brown on a transition plan.

BIOGRAPHY OF TIMOTHY M. BOLING, CFRE:

A proud resident of Buffalo, NY, Timothy most recently served as CEO of Cradle Beach, Inc. where he lead full-time staff of 42 and seasonal staff of 110 plus. In his role, he provided oversight for four programs that served 1,200 children annually with staff, lead 600 volunteers annually and increased the organization budget from $800k to $2.4 million in nine years and staffing from 9 to 42.

Boling also has an entrepreneurial side as the Founder and current President of Christiangrants.com. The business offers an online grant directory and other grant resources for nearly 2,000 churches/ministries across the country.

Prior to his time with Cradle Beach, Boling was Executive Director of Computers For Children, Cradle Beach Camp and also served as Director of Development for Meadowbrook Christian School in Milton, Pennsylvania and for the Buffalo Christian Center.

Boling earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a Minor in Marketing from State University College at Buffalo, is a 2016 Graduate of Harvard Business Institute for Non-Profit Excellence and a 2015 Graduate of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) through UB. Active in his community, Boling serves a number of different organizations including as a Board Member at Parent Network and West Side Community Services.

Peer-to-peer programs are vital in the fight to help veterans

For most of the past 15 years, military conflict has been a reality for our country’s service men and women. Day in and day out, we have seen news coverage and read scores of reports about the fighting in war-torn parts of the world where America’s military has bravely served the cause of freedom.

Now, a generation of veterans are bringing the hardships of war home and continuing to fight an all-too-often silent battle, with far too many brave heroes becoming casualties of war far from the battlefield.

A recent front-page story in the New York Times described a Marine Corps battalion devastated by suicide. The article stated that, of the 1,200 Marines deployed in Afghanistan with the Second Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment in 2008, at least 13 have since taken their own lives. That haunting statistic is nearly 14 times the suicide rate for all Americans.

Teamwork 2015: Araabmuzik talks with The Public

…When Araabmuzik comes to the Town Ballroom on Friday, August 7 it will be part of Teamwork 2015, presented by Buffalo rapper Chae Hawk’s TeamRadio.net imprint. “This show will be a special one. We have teamed up again with Compeer, a company who helps fight mental health through the power of friendship.They turn 30 and they reached out to my company TeamRadio.net and I to help raise awareness and attract more male mentors to their organization,” says Hawk, who has also teamed up recently with Niagara Falls hip hop crew Nameless to release their latest single, “Good Days.” Nameless and Chae Hawk will also perform along with WBLK’s DJ Heat, who will be spinning records…

After booking the mysterious MPC master Araabmuzik for a concert at the Town Ballroom on August 7, Buffalo rapper Chae Hawk wants to make sure the right people are in the crowd. That’s why he’s sending out a personal invitation to Bills owner Kim Pegula, who Hawk describes as “very trill.” He’s also made a few other preperations for this show, namely shooting a video with his friends Nameless and Ali Critelli for their new single “Good Days.” The video is for the new collaborative single with Nameless, the follow up to their last release, “Nickle City Bounce.” Today, we talked to Hawk about his new video and upcoming show with Araabmuzik…..

Niagara Gazette: Veterans center opens in Buffalo

Veterans in Western New York have a new “one-stop center” available to help them explore their health, education and employment options.

Local veterans gathered Monday to celebrate the opening of the new Veterans One-Stop Center on WNY. The new 10,000-square-foot facility is located at 1280 Main St. in Buffalo and will offer health, employment and education services, as well as financial counseling, legal assistance, benefits counseling and housing resources to area veterans.
