| CALL FOR ARTISTS IN WNY!
There is an exciting new opportunity being considered for local artists in the visual arts to work with youth to develop their artistic skills through a mentoring relationship that will also promote healthy behaviors, safe choices and positive development. This represents a unique partnership between local artists, youth and Compeer of Greater Buffalo, a leading non-profit mental health agency in Erie County.
Art mentors will be selected from the local art community and matched with selected youth with potential in grades 9-12 throughout Erie County who have expressed an interest in and talent for the visual arts. Artists who participate in this program will be screened and matched with youth based upon their shared art medium and their personal comfort level.
Art mentors will be expected to provide the following to one youth:
-
An average of two (2) hours per week of instruction and guidance in developing the youth’s artistic skills, for 26 wks.
-
A mentoring relationship that promotes positive youth development.
-
Assistance to the youth with creation of a unique final art project for a public art showing.
Participating art mentors will be provided with the following support:
- Introduction, screening and training in the mentoring process and positive youth development practices
- Screening and matching with a youth
- On-going support and assistance from the Program Coordinator working with enrolled youth
- All necessary art materials, equipment, and other related expenses for this project
- Potential opportunity for artists to exhibit their own work in an art show at the end of the program
